In answer to your points I can only say that I have a high tolerance for silliness if I'm enjoying myself, and that while the horologists were characterless, I didn't mind as they were relatively peripheral to the main narratives. (The info-dumps were, indeed, boring.) I get a little more annoyed when people who loved Cloud Atlas or The Thousand Autumns of Jacob de Zoet have a go at it, as most of The Bone Clocks's faults are precisely the faults of those earlier novels, but if Black Swan Green is your favourite Mitchell, I totally understand why you didn't like it.Laura Tisdallhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15428346515788046138noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1897782183409478733.post-35742743794384924262015-01-09T12:21:09.421+00:002015-01-09T12:21:09.421+00:00What did I not see in The Bone Clocks? You're ...What did I not see in The Bone Clocks? You're not the only person with excellent taste who really liked and admired it, so I must have a blindspot. For me the silliness and the boring info-dumps and the characterless horologists destroyed any admiration I have for Mitchell's writing. But then I'm a Black Swan Green fan and everytime I read a book by him I'm hoping hoping hoping that it's going to be that book for me again. <br />And I think the fact that you read 81 books while finishing your PhD is still extraordinary! :)Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
